: Buy an Afghan carpet and the profits will go to Afghan Schools!
The Afghan Schools Trust
works with local volunteer coordinators to bring basic education to rural parts of Afghanistan which are either too remote or too insecure for large NGOs to reach. Since 2001 several thousand children have attended six co-ed schools in Nuristan and hundreds have gone on to higher education both in Afghanistan and abroad.
In 2011 we begun a women's health and education centre in the central Hazarajat mountains and a school in Bagh-Bostan, a Turkman village in the far Northwest. We have also facilitated further education projects in Farah, Herat, Kabul and Mazar-i-Sharif and have an ongoing programme of exchange visits with the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh.
We rely on private funding, mainly from small donors. Our Trust administration costs are limited to travel expenses.
